Realism at it's best. A game/recruiting tool developed by the US army, it features nice graphics, bleeding, and intense, "twitch wrong and you're dead" firefights. There's a rather high learning curve, so it's not for everyone. Also, there are not that many servers up anymore. Worth a try, though.
Originally a Quake 3 mod, it's now a standalone game. It has been likened to Counter-Strike; semi-realistic weapons and fast gameplay are some features. There's also wall-jumping, crouch sliding, and the ability to slightly heal yourself. A very fast game, great for some undiluted shooting action
A free WWII shooter developed by id Software, the creators of Doom and Quake. It's focused around advancing your territory by capturing strategic points at which your team can spawn at. Slight RPG elements upgrade your character if you play well. There are several different classes to pick from, and there's the occasional vehicle you can ride. A very popular game, it has a large user base even after several years.
Warsow is a free standalone first person shooter game for Windows and Linux. It is based on the Qfusion 3D engine (a modification of the Quake 2 GPL engine), and aimed on the competitive scene, or the e-sports community. The base gameplay is focussed around the art of movement, meaning moving, speed and tricks play a big part in the gameplay.

The game allows players to perform exaggerated, gravity-defying action moves, including wall running, flipping, backflipping, tumbling, and blocking bullets with swords, in the style of action movies and anime.

Actually a RTS-FPS hybrid, this game deserves merits for even trying to blend the two genres together. It actually ends up playing pretty nicely, with multiplayer games consisting of one commander (RTS), and the other players who play the FPS portion, mining resources, building structures, and blowing stuff up. Upgradeable classes, with different upgradeable abilities for each class and different units for each class. You may have to register or download an additional patch to play, but I'm not sure.
A unique RTS, this game goes down further than the usual resource gathering and micromanagement. Terrain and unit special abilities are a large part of gameplay, as well as supply and good use of your Strategical Points to buy the right troops and such for the job. Cartoony graphics give it a unique look among the other gritty RTS games out there.
